This is off topic but, I thought that it was worth sharing. A friend of my recently emailed this to me.
Should children witness childbirth?
Due to a power outage, only one paramedic responded to the call. The house was very dark so the paramedic asked Kathleen, a 3-yr old girl to hold a flashlight high over her mommy so he could see while he helped deliver the baby. Very diligently, Kathleen did as she was asked. Heidi pushed and pushed and after a little while, Connor was born. The paramedic lifted him by his little feet and spanked him on his bottom. Connor began to cry. The paramedic then thanked Kathleen for her help and asked the wide-eyed 3-yr old what she thought about what she had just witnessed. Kathleen quickly responded, "He shouldn't have crawled in there in the first place......spank him again!"

My grandmother's sister helped deliver all of her younger siblings.
After witnessing childbirth 8 times, she decided to never get married or have children.
That story was funny. But no, I wouldn't want my child witnessing childbirth.

My son was 2 and a half when I suddenly gave birth in the next room, he didn't even attempt to come and see what was wrong. It was as if he sensed that he didn't want to be seeing what was going on in there. :) I don't blame him either. I don't think kids need to see that, no.
When my youngest child was born, I contemplated if I should let my oldest in the delivery room (she was 13 at the time).The reason I though of this was "birth control", I did not want her getting pregnant before she was really ready. Well, at the last minute she chickened out and that was OK. She is now in her 20's, married with no children yet. Somehow, I think that being so much older that her little brother's did the trick. She already knew all about babies and what it takes to take care of them.
I would never want a little one to witness childbirth, I didn't even want to =)
